AUGUSTA, ME — Investigators with the Office of State Fire Marshal have arrested two people in connection with a house fire in Augusta on Nov. 15.
Samuel Howard, 27, of Pittston, and Trevor Shorette, 32, of Augusta, were arrested and charged with arson and violating conditions of release.
On Nov. 15 at 5:16 a.m., the Augusta Police Department Dispatch received a 911 call about a house fire at 16 Lilac Lane in Augusta.
The Augusta Fire Department, along with the Augusta Police Department, responded to the scene.
The home was occupied by several residents at the time of the fire, who were awoken by a neighbor.
The fire was quickly extinguished, and no one was injured.
Due to the circumstances presented on scene, officers with the Augusta Police requested the Fire Marshal’s Office for assistance.
Investigators immediately responded and processed the scene.
Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set.
On Nov. 18, investigators arrested Howard and charged him with arson, a Class A felony, and violating conditions of release, a Class E misdemeanor.
At the time of the offense, Howard was on five sets of bail conditions.
He is currently being held at the Kennebec County Jail on $10,000 cash bail.
Through continued investigation, investigators requested an arrest warrant be issued for Shorette for his involvement.
On Dec. 23, investigators arrested Shorette on the warrant charging him with arson, a Class A felony, and violating conditions of release, a Class E misdemeanor.
At the time of the offense, Shorette was on two sets of bail conditions.
He is currently being held at the Kennebec County Jail on $10,000 cash bail.
