NEWINGTON, CT — A Middletown woman has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in September.

Shelly Sifuentes, 44, was arrested Dec. 23 pursuant to a court-issued arrest warrant.

Newington police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Hartford Avenue at approximately 7:19 p.m. Sept. 28 for a reported motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash.

Upon arrival, officers determined that the vehicle involved had fled the scene prior to police arrival.

A 70-year-old male pedestrian was located on scene suffering from serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

A neighborhood canvas was conducted and surveillance footage of the incident was obtained.

The footage showed the suspect vehicle to be gray in color with a black top.

A side mirror recovered at the scene was identified as belonging to a Toyota Camry.

The Newington Police Department Detective Division reviewed PTZ and FLOCK camera footage in the area of the crash.

Investigators observed a vehicle matching the suspect description.

A search through the FLOCK system led to the identification of the suspect vehicle.

Detectives subsequently located the vehicle at the registered owner’s place of employment.

The vehicle exhibited damage consistent with striking a pedestrian and was missing a side mirror.

Sifuentes was charged with assault in the second degree, evading responsibility of a motor vehicle crash with serious physical injury and failure to drive in the proper lane.

She was detained on a $50,000 court set bond and is scheduled to appear at New Britain Superior Court on Dec. 23.
