Police seek help identifying package theft suspect in Newark

NEWARK, NJ — Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a woman suspected of stealing two packages from a porch on Dec. 21.

At approximately 4:17 p.m., a resident on Smith Street near Tremont Avenue observed a woman remove a delivered package from the porch.

The suspect left but returned moments later and took a second package that had been delivered and placed on top of the victim’s mailbox.

She then fled northbound on Smith Street.

The value of the stolen items is approximately $82.

The suspect is described as a Black woman with a thin build.

She was wearing a black jacket, a tan and beige hooded sweatshirt, black pants, brown boots and large, clear eyeglasses.

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. urges anyone with information about the identity of the suspect to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
