BATH, NY — A Savona man was arrested following an investigation into the unlawful possession of a loaded firearm.
James A. Labarr, 42, of Savona, was taken into custody by New York State Police on December 19.
State Police responded to a report of an injured deer along State Route 226 in the town of Bath, Steuben County, at approximately 8:13 p.m. on November 3.
During the investigation, information was received indicating that a male subject discharged a handgun to kill the deer before leaving the scene.
A subsequent investigation by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined that Labarr, a convicted felon, was in possession of and discharged a loaded handgun during the incident.
The firearm was later recovered and secured as evidence.
Labarr was located at his residence on December 19 and taken into custody without incident.
He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony, and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony.
Labarr was processed at State Police Bath and transported to the Steuben County Jail for centralized arraignment.
