DEPTFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Camden man was arrested after allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a disabled resident before forcing him to withdraw money.
Lahquae Stjuste, 32, of Camden, was charged with first-degree kidnapping, second-degree attempted disarming of a law enforcement officer, third-degree burglary, third-degree aggravated assault and third-degree resisting arrest.
Deptford Police patrol units were dispatched to the 800 block of May Avenue at approximately 3:45 p.m. Dec. 18 for a report of a 911 hang-up.
According to the 911 operator, a subject could be heard in the background requesting police.
Officers arrived at the residence but received no answer at the door.
A witness reported seeing the disabled male resident being forced into the rear of a black Mercedes sedan.
The victim appeared to have been assaulted, according to the witness.
Deptford officers converged on the area and observed the black sedan a short distance from the home.
A motor vehicle stop was initiated and the victim, a 59-year-old man from May Avenue, was able to escape.
The victim suffered severe injuries to his face and body after allegedly being assaulted in his home and inside the vehicle.
Officers attempted to apprehend the male suspect, but the man allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted officers.
The suspect allegedly attempted to disarm two officers of their duty firearms and bit another officer during the incident.
One officer required treatment at a local hospital after suffering a bite injury.
According to the victim, the male suspect entered his home and demanded an amount of U.S. currency.
When the victim refused, the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim inside the residence and forced the victim into the vehicle.
The suspect then allegedly drove the male victim to Camden in order to withdraw the funds, but was unsuccessful.
The victim was transported back to the residence after informing the suspect that he possessed money at the home.
