CLARKSTOWN, NY — A pedestrian was struck and killed on Interstate 87 southbound early Wednesday morning.
New York State Police troopers assigned to the Tarrytown Thruway Barracks responded to the incident at approximately 4:40 a.m. on the Exit 14 acceleration lane of the New York State Thruway.
The preliminary investigation by the Troop F Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined that Bravo Nondo, 45, of Albany, was traveling southbound on I-87 when he stopped his vehicle on the Exit 14 acceleration ramp and exited his 2020 Nissan.
Nondo walked to the rear of the vehicle for unknown reasons.
A 2019 Nissan operated by Gregg M. Albaum, 35, of Nanuet, was attempting to enter I-87 south utilizing the Exit 14 acceleration lane and took evasive action to avoid Nondo’s vehicle, which was stopped in the lane.
Albaum subsequently struck Nondo.
Life-saving measures were administered at the scene; however, Nondo succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Albaum was transported to Nyack Hospital for treatment.
The New York State Attorney General’s Office was notified of the incident and responded.
The investigation remains ongoing.
