MONTAGUE, MA — Officers from the Montague Police Department and a Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy rescued a dog from a burning residence on Turnpike Road on Friday afternoon.
Police responded to a reported kitchen fire at 40 Turnpike Road at approximately 12:53 p.m.
Officers Jacob Lapean and Nathan Pervere, along with Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Zachery Caloon, arrived to find the resident outside the home.
The resident told officers her dog, Bella, was still inside the living room.
Officers observed active flames coming from the kitchen area.
The officers retrieved fire extinguishers from their patrol vehicles and deployed four extinguishers in an effort to suppress the fire while attempting to locate the dog.
Heavy black smoke conditions forced the officers to exit the residence.
Detective Sergeant Joshua Hoffman and Detective Christopher Smerz arrived and assisted the Turners Falls Fire Department with fireground setup and traffic control.
The Turners Falls Fire Department took over fire suppression efforts.
Bella was successfully rescued and reunited with her owner.
