Officer-involved shooting on Trinity Place in Albany

ALBANY, NY — Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon on Trinity Place.

At approximately 1:13 p.m., detectives from the Albany Police Detective Division were attempting to stop a 29-year-old man on Trinity Place near Ashgrove Place in connection with several domestic violence investigations.

The man pulled a .40 caliber handgun from his coat pocket and fired at two Albany Police detectives.

The two detectives returned fire, striking the 29-year-old man in the torso.

A .40 caliber handgun was recovered at the scene.

Multiple officers rendered aid to the man until the scene was safe for emergency medical personnel to enter.

The man was treated by the Albany Fire Department and emergency medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

The two detectives involved in the shooting were not physically injured.

Notifications have been made to the New York State Attorney General’s Office and the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, and representatives from both offices responded to the scene.

Albany Police Department personnel have been, and will continue to be, in contact with the City of Albany Community Police Review Board.
