PLAINFIELD, VT — A Barre man has been cited on a retail theft charge following an investigation into a theft at a convenience store.
Vermont State Police received a report of a theft at the Maplefields in Plainfield on Dec. 13 at 3:53 p.m.
The suspect reportedly stole a carton of cigarettes before exiting the store.
Further investigation identified Eric Shepard, 55, of Barre as the suspect in the case.
Shepard was issued a citation to appear in Washington County Superior Court, Criminal Division on Jan. 29, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. to answer the charge of retail theft.
