Man arrested after high-speed crash in Granville

GRANVILLE, NY — State Police arrested a Colorado man on multiple felony charges following a high-speed pursuit that ended in a serious crash on Dec. 16.

Logan K. Irwin, 27, of Colorado, was charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony; third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class D felony; second-degree vehicular assault, a class E felony; seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor; driving while intoxicated; driving while impaired by drugs; and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.

At approximately 11:57 a.m., State Police were notified that a stolen U-Haul pickup truck was being pursued by Vermont law enforcement.

The vehicle, driven by Irwin, entered New York and was observed by the Granville Police Department traveling southbound on State Route 22 in the village of Granville at speeds exceeding 100 mph.

The Granville Police Department followed the vehicle but quickly lost sight of the truck.

Officers continued southbound and located the suspect vehicle after it had crashed with another vehicle on State Route 22 approximately one mile south of the village.

The investigation determined a southbound SUV had begun a left turn when it was struck on the driver’s side by Irwin as he attempted to pass it on the left.

The driver of the SUV was seriously injured in the collision and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, where they remain in critical but stable condition.

Irwin was taken into custody by the Granville Police Department after he attempted to flee on foot prior to State Police’s arrival.

While being taken into custody, he was found to be impaired and in possession of a controlled substance.

The investigation and custody of Irwin were transferred to State Police.

Irwin sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to State Police Greenwich for processing after being medically released.

During the investigation, a sample was collected to determine the drug content of his blood.

Irwin was then transported to the Washington County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
