Woman arrested on drug charges in Gouverneur

GOUVERNEUR, NY — A 34-year-old woman faces multiple felony drug charges following a traffic stop on Dec. 15.

Alicia E. Countryman, of Gouverneur, was charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 2nd degree, a Class A felony.

She also faces two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd degree, a Class B felony.

Additional charges include one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 4th degree, a Class C felony, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, a Class A misdemeanor.

Members of the New York State Police Troop B Violent Gangs and Narcotics Enforcement Team were patrolling in the town of Gouverneur when they initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation.

Further investigation revealed that Countryman was in possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl.

She was arrested and transported to the State Police station in Gouverneur.

After being arraigned in the Town of Gouverneur Court, she was remanded without bail to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility.

The driver was found to not possess contraband and was issued a citation before being released.

New York State Police was assisted by the St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force, United States Border Patrol and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations.
