CANANDAIGUA, NY — A substitute teacher faces two counts of endangering the welfare of a child after allegedly sending inappropriate messages and photographs to students via social media.
Michael P. Thompson, 27, of Canandaigua, was arrested Dec. 17 by the Canandaigua Police Department.
Police allege Thompson engaged two juvenile students via Snapchat between November and December, sending them inappropriate messages and photographs.
Thompson worked as a substitute teacher with the Canandaigua School District.
He was processed on the charges and transported to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment at CAP Court.
The investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending.
The Canandaigua Police Department is asking anyone with further information or parents of Canandaigua School District students who believe Thompson conversed with their child via social media to contact Detective Liberty at 585-337-2107 or email [email protected].
The Canandaigua City School District said it immediately removed Thompson from its substitute list upon learning of the investigation.
During the 2024-2025 school year, Thompson worked a limited number of days between the middle school and the Academy, according to the district.
He also served as a volunteer coach during the 2024-2025 winter indoor track season and spring modified boys’ lacrosse season, attending no more than two practices in total for each season.
During the 2025-2026 school year, Thompson worked two days as a substitute teacher, both at the Academy.
