Scam targets permit applicants in DeWitt

DEWITT, NY — Police are warning residents about fraudulent emails targeting people who have submitted permit applications to the town’s Planning and Zoning Board.

The scam emails appear to come from the Town of DeWitt and invoice recipients for permit applications, according to the DeWitt Police Department.

The emails are not legitimate, police said.

The fraudulent messages come from [email protected], police said.

Official emails from Town of DeWitt employees come from @dewittny.gov email addresses, according to police.

Police are advising residents who receive emails requesting payment for permit applications not to respond, click any links or provide personal or financial information.

Residents can contact the DeWitt Planning and Zoning Board directly at 315-446-9250 to verify any invoice request.

Anyone who receives a confirmed fraudulent email should report it to the DeWitt Police Department by calling 911.
