Two-vehicle head-on crash on Route 9 in Woodford

WOODFORD, VT — Vermont State Police responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision on Vermont Route 9 near Notch Road on Dec. 16 at 9:39 a.m.

Isabella Thurber, 18, of Woodford, was traveling east on Route 9 in a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 when she lost control on a slick part of the roadway.

Thurber’s vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a 2021 Jeep Gladiator driven by Ryan Astley, 35, of Spofford, New Hampshire, which was also traveling east on Route 9.

Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.

Astley was transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for evaluation of minor injuries.

Thurber was not injured.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Weather conditions at the time were clear with a temperature of 20 degrees, and road conditions were dry with patches of wet asphalt.

Vermont State Police were assisted at the scene by Bennington Rural Fire Department, Bennington Rescue Squad and Walt’s Towing.
