CANTON, NY — New York State Police arrested two people in connection with an investigation involving a minor.
Christopher B. Colton, 33, of Canton, was arrested on Dec. 13 and charged with rape in the third degree, involving a victim less than 17 years old with a perpetrator 21 years of age or older.
Kristi L. Mason, 45, of Gouverneur, was arrested on Dec. 14 and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
The investigation began on Aug. 9, 2024, at approximately 1:54 p.m., when State Police received information regarding inappropriate sexual contact between an adult male and a minor.
The investigation determined that Colton allegedly engaged in sexual contact with a child under the age of 17.
Further investigation revealed that Mason, the mother of the minor, was aware of the allegations involving the minor and Colton.
Colton was arrested and transported to State Police Canton for processing.
He was arraigned in the Town of Morristown Court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or a $30,000 bond.
Mason was arrested and transported to State Police Gouverneur for processing.
She was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Canton Court at a later date.
State Police were assisted by the St. Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office and Child Protective Services.
