NEWARK, NJ — Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect who broke into a health food restaurant and stole a cash register containing $400 on November 11.

At approximately 3:34 a.m., the suspect was captured on surveillance video pushing a shopping cart in the 1200 block of Raymond Boulevard.

When he reached Fresh Coast, a health food restaurant, the suspect broke the lock box off the front entrance, forced his way inside, and headed for the cash register.

After he was unable to pry it open with a crowbar, the suspect ripped the cash register from the counter and placed it inside the shopping cart, along with beverages he had taken from the cooler.

The suspect, who wore black pants, a black hoodie, a face mask, and a grey beanie hat, fled westbound on Raymond Boulevard.

He was last seen on surveillance video getting into a taxi cab with the cash register on University Avenue.

The taxi traveled westbound on Market Street and dropped the suspect off on Duryea Street.

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. urges anyone with information on the suspect’s identity to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
