CHESHIRE, CT — A Florida man was arrested and extradited to Connecticut following an investigation into a sexual assault that allegedly occurred approximately 10 years ago.
Simon Vasquez Bautista was taken into custody Dec. 8 with assistance from multiple law enforcement agencies.
The investigation began Nov. 20, 2024, when detectives from the Cheshire Police Department received a complaint forwarded by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office in Florida after a victim made a disclosure to a school resource officer.
Cheshire detectives traveled to Florida on two separate occasions to conduct interviews in conjunction with Florida DCF and with assistance from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
An arrest warrant was issued for Vasquez Bautista after a suspect was identified.
The Connecticut State’s Attorney’s Office, U.S. Marshal Service, FBI and Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Florida assisted in the arrest.
Vasquez Bautista waived extradition Dec. 11.
Cheshire Police Detective DeCapua and Officer Lespier took him into custody from the Orange County Corrections Booking and Release Center Dec. 15 and returned him to Connecticut.
Vasquez Bautista was scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court Dec. 16 charged with sexual assault in the third degree and illegal sexual contact with a victim under 16.
