PEEKSKILL, NY — A man was arrested on assault charges after police responded to a report of an attack in progress early Sunday morning.
Peekskill police officers responded to 153 Hudson Avenue at approximately 5:59 a.m. on Dec. 15 for a report of an assault in progress.
Upon arrival, officers heard screams for help coming from inside the residence.
Officers entered the building and encountered an adult female victim suffering from a visible head injury while being pursued by an adult male.
When the male observed the officers, he retreated into a second-floor apartment and barricaded himself inside.
The victim reported to officers that she had been struck in the head with a brick and feared for her life.
The victim was transported to Hudson Valley Hospital for immediate medical treatment.
At approximately 11 a.m., a search warrant for the second-floor apartment was issued by Judge Sophia Trott.
Peekskill police officers subsequently executed the warrant and took the suspect, Jason M. Blume, into custody without further incident.
Blume is scheduled to be arraigned later Sunday in the City of Peekskill Court on charges of assault in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and unlawful imprisonment in the first degree.
