Driver killed in head-on crash in Hyde Park

HYDE PARK, NY — A 28-year-old Hyde Park man was killed in a head-on collision on State Route 9 on Thursday afternoon.

The Town of Hyde Park Police Department responded to the area of State Route 9 and Huyler Drive at approximately 4:21 p.m. for a reported two-vehicle crash with entrapment.

Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles that had collided head-on, with both operators trapped inside their vehicles.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a white 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling northbound on State Route 9 crossed over the double yellow center line and struck a 2010 Honda Accord that was traveling southbound.

The driver and sole occupant of the Honda Accord was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The operator and sole occupant of the Ford F-150, a 46-year-old Kingston man, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Witnesses reported seeing the Ford F-150 cross into the southbound lane before striking the Honda Accord.

Out of respect for the families involved, the operators’ identities will not be released at this time and will be provided in the coming days.

The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded and is assisting with the investigation.

Additional assistance at the scene was provided by the Hyde Park Fire Department, Northern Dutchess Paramedics/Empress, the New York State Police, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response.
