PORT JERVIS, NY — A man faces a murder charge after a fatal stabbing at an assisted living facility.

New York State Police from the Greenville Barracks and the Town of Deerpark Police Department responded to a report of an assault at The Sentinel of Port Jervis at 2247 Greenville Turnpike at approximately 11:39 p.m. Dec. 13.

Town of Deerpark police arrived first and found Patricia Winters, 62, of Port Jervis, dead inside a bedroom with a stab wound.

James Annear, 84, of Port Jervis, was also found inside the bedroom suffering from apparent self-inflicted stab wounds.

The preliminary investigation determined that Annear and Winters were involved in a verbal confrontation that turned physical prior to the incident.

Annear received medical treatment at the scene and was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Annear remains in the custody of the New York State Police and will be charged with second-degree murder, an A-I felony, and arraigned when his medical condition permits.
