RHINEBECK, NY — The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested a Red Hook man on Dec. 11 on charges of sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
Julio C. Vargas Martinez, 31, of Red Hook, was charged with Sexual Abuse 1st, sexual contact with a victim younger than 13 by a defendant 21 or older, a class D felony, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a class A misdemeanor.
Investigators received information Dec. 11 regarding a sexual assault involving a child.
The subsequent investigation determined that Vargas Martinez engaged in sexual contact with a victim younger than 13.
Vargas Martinez was arraigned in Red Hook Town Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center in lieu of $25,000 cash bail, $50,000 bond, or $100,000 partially secured bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17 at 3 p.m.
The Red Hook Police Department and the Child Advocacy Center assisted in the investigation.
