PITTSFORD, VT — A Rutland man died early Saturday morning after his SUV collided with a detached tractor-trailer on US Route 7.
Christopher Cyr, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash near the intersection with Giddings Lane.
Vermont State Police said the incident occurred at approximately 5:13 a.m. when a northbound tractor-trailer operated by Paul Ricard, 64, of Castleton, became detached from its cab and stopped in the roadway.
Ricard had exited his 2015 Kenworth to attempt to reconnect the trailer when Cyr’s 2016 GMC Acadia, also traveling northbound, struck the rear of the detached trailer.
Ricard sustained minor injuries and was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center.
Cyr was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to police.
The crash occurred under clear, cold weather conditions on dry pavement.
Vermont State Police from the Rutland Barracks were assisted at the scene by Regional Ambulance Service, the Pittsford Fire Department and Pittsford First Response.
A civil violation complaint is pending.
