WEST BROOKFIELD, MA — A stolen pickup truck crashed on West Main Street after sideswiping a commercial vehicle and trailer before the driver fled on foot into nearby woods.

The West Brookfield Police Department responded to the motor vehicle crash at approximately 9 a.m. on Dec. 11.

A 1-ton pickup truck traveling eastbound crossed the center line into the westbound lane and sideswiped a commercial vehicle and the trailer it was towing.

After the collision, the pickup truck fled the scene but traveled only a few hundred yards before coming to a stop on Hadley Path after losing a tire.

The operator, described as a white male, exited the truck, discarded apparent narcotics onto an adjacent property, and fled on foot into a wooded area west of Hadley Path.

A subsequent investigation revealed the pickup truck had been reported stolen earlier that same day in Belchertown.

A perimeter was immediately established, and multiple agencies assisted in an extensive search that lasted several hours.

Resources included the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, Massachusetts State Police K-9 units, CEMLEC K-9 units, CEMLEC drone unit, North Brookfield Police Department drone unit, Warren Police Department and Brookfield Police Department.

Despite the thorough search, the suspect was not located.
