Two-vehicle crash on I-91 in Thetford

THETFORD, VT — A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 91 south near mile marker 83 sent one driver to the hospital Tuesday morning.

Vermont State Police responded to the scene at approximately 7:38 a.m.

Robert Mayhew, 77, of Hardwick, was traveling south in the passing lane when he drifted onto the left shoulder and struck a small patch of snow, causing him to lose control of his 2025 Ford Maverick.

After losing control, Mayhew entered the travel lane and struck the rear driver’s side of a 2024 Cadillac CT5 operated by Martha Ilsley, 71, of Thetford.

Mayhew’s vehicle then spun and rolled onto its driver’s side.

Following the collision, Ilsley lost control of her vehicle and left the roadway on the right side.

The Thetford Fire Department extricated Mayhew from his vehicle.

Upper Valley Ambulance transported Mayhew to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment of suspected minor injuries.

Ilsley was not injured in the crash.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Mayhew’s vehicle was totaled, while Ilsley’s vehicle sustained moderate damage.

Legendary Auto removed both vehicles from the scene.

Road conditions were dry and weather was cloudy at the time of the crash.
