TROY, NY — Troy Police Detectives arrested a 17-year-old male Tuesday on charges including attempted murder in connection with a shooting that occurred nine hours earlier.
Around 5 a.m. Tuesday, Troy Police Patrol Officers were called to Samaritan Hospital where a 43-year-old male victim walked in with non-life-threatening injuries after being shot.
The victim reported the incident occurred shortly before his arrival to the hospital outside in the area of the Griswold Heights Apartments.
Detectives and Evidence Technicians responded to the scene to continue the investigation.
Through examination of evidence and interviews of witnesses, a suspect was identified.
Detectives received a court-ordered search warrant for an apartment in the Margaret Phalen Apartments where it was believed the suspect was located.
Members of the Troy Police Department Emergency Response Team conducted the search warrant at the apartment, where the suspect was located and taken into custody shortly after 2 p.m. without further incident.
Evidence Technicians recovered a loaded, illegal handgun, ammunition and an extended magazine in the suspect’s apartment.
The juvenile suspect, of Troy, was brought to the Juvenile Services Bureau for processing and was arraigned and brought to a youth detention facility pending further hearings.
The victim is expected to fully recover.
The juvenile was charged with attempted murder, attempted robbery, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
