Fatal fire investigated in Fleming

FLEMING, NY — The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal house fire that occurred in the Town of Fleming.

Sheriff Brian Schenck reports the fire broke out around 6:27 a.m. on Dec. 7 at 5520 Silver Street Road.

A preliminary investigation revealed the fire started in the basement of the residence.

The owner, Robert Glover, was able to exit the residence and call 911.

Upon the arrival of emergency responders, Glover was located just outside the front door of the residence, unconscious.

Life-saving measures were performed by deputies and EMS before Glover was transported by ambulance to the Auburn Community Hospital Emergency Room.

Shortly after Glover arrived at the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation has not yielded any evidence that would suggest the cause of the fire is suspicious.

The origin of the fire is still undetermined and under investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, New York State Fire, Cayuga County 911, Fleming Fire Department, Owasco Fire Department, Aurelius Fire Department, Auburn Fire Department, Sennett Fire Department, Cayuga County Emergency Management Office, Throop Fire Department, Moravia Fire Department, Skaneateles Fire Department, Cayuga County Rehab team, Cayuga County Coroner’s Office and the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
