MONTVILLE, CT — A driver was arrested after driving through a holiday parade route and fleeing from police on Dec. 7.
Police said a green Volvo drove on the wrong side of the roadway to avoid a road closure barricade at approximately 6 p.m. during the Montville Holiday Parade.
The vehicle continued to travel on the parade path, according to authorities.
Police said the driver ignored officers’ commands to stop and failed to stop for their lights and sirens.
The driver was later located parked at the Brown Derby Lounge.
The operator was identified as Andrew Bennett, 21, of Montville.
Police said Bennett displayed indicators of being impaired by alcohol and/or drugs while speaking with officers.
Bennett was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle without insurance, operating a motor vehicle with suspended registration, disobeying the signal of an officer, operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, failure to drive right and drinking while driving.
He was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Norwich Superior Court on Dec. 16 at 9 a.m.
