NEW HARTFORD, NY — A man was arrested twice in one day Saturday, with the second arrest resulting in a felony burglary charge.
New Hartford Police officers assigned to the Sangertown Square Mall detail responded to Target at approximately 5:30 p.m. for a report of a man store loss prevention had observed stealing merchandise.
Upon arrival, officers determined the man taken into custody at Target was the same person arrested earlier Saturday after a theft at Walmart on Commercial Drive.
The man was identified as Marcus Howard, 30, of New York.
Howard was arrested earlier Saturday by police and charged with one count of petit larceny, a misdemeanor.
Howard was issued an appearance ticket, processed and released on the first arrest.
Approximately three hours later, Howard entered the Target store where it was determined he was previously barred from entering due to a prior larceny committed there.
Due to being barred from Target and the additional theft committed there Saturday, Howard was charged with burglary in the third degree, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor.
Howard was processed at the New Hartford Police Department on the new charges and transported to the Oneida County Jail to be held for arraignment in Oneida County Centralized Arraignment Part Court.
