FLEMING, NY — A 22-year-old Virginia man was arrested on drunken driving charges early Dec. 6 after his vehicle struck a culvert.

Isaias Presas-Reyes, of North Chesterfield, Virginia, was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or higher, moving from a lane unsafely and unlicensed operator.

Deputies from the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of W. Lake Rd. and Buck Point Rd. at approximately 3:04 a.m. for an iPhone crash detection alert, according to Sheriff Brian Schenck.

Upon arrival, deputies observed a vehicle with heavy front-end damage caused by striking a culvert and Presas-Reyes being treated by emergency medical services.

After refusing transport to the hospital, Presas-Reyes performed standardized field sobriety tests and failed, according to the sheriff’s office.

Presas-Reyes was arrested at 3:54 a.m. and brought to the Public Safety Building, where he provided a chemical breath sample reading of .17%.

He was released on uniform traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in Fleming Town Court on Dec. 9 at 4:30 p.m.
