Three firearms recovered after gun call in Holyoke

HOLYOKE, MA — Police recovered three illegal firearms and arrested two suspects after responding to a report of a party involving juveniles and firearms late Thursday.

Officers Hector Rosado-Burgos and Giovanni Abella responded to an apartment building at 679 High Street around 10:10 p.m. for the gun call.

As officers arrived, a large group of individuals ran out of the apartment.

Officer Rosado-Burgos located one suspect, later identified as Javion Rosa, with a firearm inside the apartment.

Officer Rosado observed Rosa hide the gun inside a cabinet where it was later located.

Officer Rosado-Burgos and Sergeant Michael Whelihan then placed Rosa under arrest.

The firearm in the apartment was a ghost gun, loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition.

All on-duty Holyoke Police officers were called to the apartment building during the chaotic scene.

Officers attempted to detain a second subject, later identified as Drakarius Yarborough, who was allegedly attempting to enter an occupied apartment.

Yarborough was actively resisting and believed to have dropped an item during the incident.

Detective Ashley Feliciano recovered a firearm that was located directly under where Yarborough was placed under arrest.

Inside his backpack, officers seized drug paraphernalia, more than $350 in cash and approximately 44 grams of marijuana.

Officer Johnathan Ortiz also recovered a third firearm on a porch, which was loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition and capable of holding 31 rounds of ammunition.

This firearm was reported stolen out of Vermont.

Javion Rosa, 18, of Holyoke is charged with possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of a large capacity feeding device/magazine, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Drakarius Yarborough, 19, of Northampton is charged with possession with the intent to distribute a Class D drug, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer and interfering with a police officer.
