Threat reported at Walmart in Central Square

CENTRAL SQUARE, NY — State Police and the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Walmart on State Route 49 on Thursday at about 7:30 p.m. to investigate a reported threat.

An anonymous person called Walmart and stated they were inside the store armed with weapons and threatened violence, according to the preliminary investigation.

Troopers evacuated shoppers and employees and conducted a search, which included K9 units from both the State Police and the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office.

Nothing was found during the search to substantiate the threat, and the store was re-opened.

The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is continuing to investigate the origin of the threat.
