MOUNT HOLLY, NJ — A Lumberton Township mayor has been indicted on charges of child endangerment and abuse stemming from a March drunk driving incident.

Gina LaPlaca, 46, of Lumberton, was charged by a grand jury with endangering the welfare of a child, a second-degree offense, and child abuse, a fourth-degree offense, according to Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw.

The indictment was returned Nov. 20 and signed by Bradshaw.

LaPlaca is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 8 in Superior Court in Mount Holly.

The charges stem from a March investigation that began after another motorist contacted police to report that LaPlaca’s vehicle was swerving across the centerline, nearly striking oncoming vehicles.

LaPlaca’s young child was in the car with her at the time of the incident, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Lumberton police officers went to LaPlaca’s residence after viewing video footage recorded by the motorist and took her into custody.

LaPlaca, who serves on the Lumberton Township Committee, was previously charged with drunk driving and related offenses in connection with the incident.

The case was investigated by the Lumberton Township Police Department.
