Pedestrian struck, killed on Route 16 in Dover

DOVER, NH — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Route 16 on Wednesday evening.

The New Hampshire State Police Communications Unit began receiving reports at 5:44 p.m. of a pedestrian walking in the northbound right breakdown lane on Route 16 toward the General Sullivan Bridge.

Callers reported the pedestrian was moving in and out of the travel lane.

While troopers responded to the area, they learned the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

The pedestrian, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit responded to investigate.

Multiple lanes in the area were closed for approximately two and a half hours during the investigation.

Dover Fire & Rescue and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.

The name of the pedestrian is being withheld pending the ongoing investigation.
