Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Galloway Township

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, NJ — A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle Saturday evening on Route 9 near Moss Mill Road.

Police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 5:14 p.m. for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

The investigation revealed that a 1999 Buick Century operated by Mark Basham, 64, of Lumberton, was traveling southbound on Route 9.

John Vickers, 82, of Wall, was crossing Route 9 from the east side of the roadway toward Historic Smithville when he was struck by Basham’s vehicle.

Vickers was not within a crosswalk at the time he entered the roadway.

Vickers sustained serious injuries and was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center – City Division.

Basham was uninjured but was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center – Mainland Division for evaluation.

The crash remains under investigation by Officer Reyes of the Galloway Township Police Department.
