AURELIUS, NY — A man has been arrested on a felony charge after authorities say he stole nearly $1,500 worth of lithium batteries from Bass Pro Shops.

Chad P. Jennings, 30, of Auburn, was arrested Nov. 19 and charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, according to Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck.

Deputies responded to Bass Pro Shops at 2:41 p.m. Nov. 5 for a reported larceny complaint.

Investigators say two males entered the store and went to the marine section, where they located three lithium batteries.

The men removed security devices from the batteries and placed them in a cart before leaving the store without paying, according to the sheriff’s office.

The total cost of the stolen batteries was $1,429.97.

Jennings was identified as one of the suspects and was found to already be incarcerated at the Cayuga County Jail on an unrelated incident.

He was charged with the new crime and remains incarcerated.

A warrant of arrest has been issued for the other male.
