Police seek help identifying shooting suspect in Newark

NEWARK, NJ — Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect who fired several shots in the city’s Central Ward last week.

The ShotSpotter system detected gunfire in the 500 block of Mulberry Street at approximately 11:32 p.m. on Nov. 13.

Surveillance video captured the suspect firing several rounds before fleeing west on Emmet Street as a passenger in a white Dodge Charger, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr.

The vehicle, which had a black stripe on the hood, a black roof, a black wing and a partial black design on the trunk, headed south on McCarter Highway from Murray Street.

The suspect wore dark-colored clothes and black, grey and white Retro Air Jordan sneakers.

No injuries were reported.

Officers canvassing the area located four 9mm shell casings.
