Man arrested on assault charge in Weedsport

WEEDSPORT, NY — New York State Police arrested a Weedsport man following an assault at a residence on Van Buren Street on Nov. 30.

Shawn D. Woolfolk, 23, of Weedsport, was taken into custody without incident at approximately 10:25 a.m. after troopers and Fire/EMS personnel responded to a 911 report of a domestic dispute with injuries.

Police said Woolfolk and a 19-year-old woman were involved in an argument inside a single rented room within a multi-bedroom residence.

During the dispute, Woolfolk struck the victim and then used a knife to inflict a laceration to the back of her leg, according to police.

The victim was transported to Upstate University Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

A young child was present in the room at the time of the incident.

The child was evaluated at the hospital and found to be unharmed.

Child Protective Services was notified and assisted with ensuring the child’s safety.

Woolfolk was charged with assault in the second degree, a D felony; criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a D felony; and endangering the welfare of a child, an A misdemeanor.

He was taken to Cayuga County Jail for CAP arraignment.

The investigation is ongoing.
