Teenager arrested during robbery in Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A 16-year-old from Pelham was arrested during an armed robbery at a Metro PCS store on Monday.

Mount Vernon Police observed what appeared to be an armed robbery in progress at the store located at 440 East Sandford Blvd. at approximately 7:52 p.m.

The teenager was observed entering the store and displaying what appeared to be a firearm before proceeding to rob the establishment.

Mount Vernon Police Department detectives were in the area at the time and observed the suspect enter the store wearing all black clothing and a facial covering.

They immediately broadcasted a robbery-in-progress over the police radio.

Moments later, the suspect exited through a back door and fled toward Garden Avenue, where detectives pursued and apprehended him.

A firearm was recovered from his person at the time of arrest.

The suspect stole 11 iPhones, 3 Samsung phones and 3 Motorola cell phones, valued at more than $5,000.

He has been arraigned on charges of robbery in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
