Teenager arrested during robbery in Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A 16-year-old from Pelham was arrested during an armed robbery at a cellphone store Monday evening.

Mount Vernon Police detectives observed the teenager enter Metro PCS at 440 East Sandford Blvd. at approximately 7:52 p.m. wearing all black clothing and a facial covering while displaying what appeared to be a firearm.

The detectives immediately broadcasted a robbery-in-progress over the police radio.

The suspect exited through a back door and fled toward Garden Avenue, where detectives pursued and apprehended him.

A firearm was recovered from his person at the time of arrest.

The suspect stole 11 iPhones, 3 Samsung phones and 3 Motorola cellphones valued at more than $5,000.

The teenager was arraigned on charges of robbery in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

His name was not released because he is a juvenile.
