GREENWICH, CT — A Port Chester, New York man was arrested on multiple charges including sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor in connection with an incident involving a middle school student.
Hector J. Romero Vargas, 31, of Port Chester, surrendered to Greenwich Police Department on Sunday after learning of an arrest warrant.
Police began investigating on Sept. 11 when Vargas allegedly grabbed a middle school student from behind while she was walking to school.
Vargas was charged with unlawful restraint in the second degree, sexual assault in the fourth degree, stalking in the first degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree, risk of injury to a child and breach of peace in the second degree.
He was unable to post a court-set bond of $250,000 and was transported to Stamford Superior Court for arraignment.
Detectives worked over several weeks tracking down leads and investigating tips from residents.
