Small plane crashes into fence at Chatham airport

CHATHAM, MA — A small plane left the runway and crashed into a fence and wood line at Chatham Airport on Sunday evening.

Chatham Police and Fire/Rescue were dispatched to the airport at 240 George Ryder Road at 5:22 p.m. for the report.

The plane’s four occupants were outside of the aircraft when emergency responders arrived and reported no injuries.

The pilot, 51, of Truro, and three passengers declined medical attention.

The passengers were a 47-year-old from Truro, an 18-year-old from Truro and a 17-year-old from Sandwich.

No fire was reported and there were no reported hazards.

Chatham Airport officials responded to the scene shortly after the incident was reported.

The aircraft remains at the airport awaiting the arrival of the FAA and Mass Aeronautics Commission, who will be in charge of the investigation.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The airport is open to aircraft traffic.
