WEST NEW YORK, NJ — Police arrested a man with outstanding warrants and seized a handgun, drugs and ammunition following a reported altercation on Nov. 13.
Officers responded to a report of a physical altercation near 62nd Street and Bergenline Avenue.
The individuals involved had left the scene, but a description was provided to responding units.
Officers Frank Escobar and Anthony Sanchez of the Specialized Response Unit located Richard Zambrano, 39, of Jersey City, who matched the description.
During the stop, Zambrano provided a false name, became irate and attempted to evade identification, police said.
Officers confirmed his identity and discovered he had active warrants out of Secaucus and Union City.
When officers attempted to place him under arrest, Zambrano resisted, leading to a brief struggle before he was taken into custody.
A search incident to arrest revealed a handgun, a large-capacity magazine with hollow-point bullets, cocaine packaged for distribution, additional suspected controlled dangerous substances and drug paraphernalia.
Zambrano was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a weapon during a controlled dangerous substance offense, controlled dangerous substance distribution offenses including near public property and a school zone, resisting arrest, hindering apprehension, possession of hollow-point ammunition and a large-capacity magazine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was transported to the West New York Police Department for processing and later lodged at Hudson County Jail.
