Explosion destroys home in Oakland

1 min read

OAKLAND, ME — The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating an explosion that destroyed a two-story residence on Lakeview Drive Thursday afternoon.

The blast occurred at approximately 3 p.m.

Cliff Hannon, 66, was inside the home at the time of the explosion.

Hannon sustained serious injuries and was transported by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center.

Initial indications are that a propane gas leak found an ignition source, leading to the explosion.

Investigators have ruled out the propane tanks themselves as the source of the leak and are now examining several propane appliances for the cause.

Investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office remain on scene, working alongside the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Oakland Police and Fire Departments, Maine State Police, and Maine Propane and Fuel Inspectors to determine the cause of the explosion.
