Man dies after crash in Norwalk

NORWALK, CT — A 24-year-old man died after his vehicle crashed into a cemetery wall early Saturday morning.

Anthony Martinez was found inside his vehicle at the intersection of East Avenue and Van Zant Street after the crash was reported at 2:12 a.m.

Emergency responders from the Norwalk Police Department, Norwalk Fire Department and Norwalk Hospital EMS arrived at the scene and found Martinez’s vehicle had collided with the stone wall of the East Norwalk Historical Cemetery.

Martinez sustained critical injuries and was transported to Norwalk Hospital, where he later died.

He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The Norwalk Police Crash Reconstruction Unit and Identification Unit responded to process the scene and investigate.

Preliminary findings indicate Martinez was driving eastbound on Van Zant Street when he continued through the intersection at East Avenue and struck the stone wall.
