Commercial vehicle stopped with 22 violations in Rye

RYE, NY — A commercial vehicle was pulled over and found to have 22 federal and state violations during a Department of Transportation inspection on Midland Avenue near Peck Avenue.

A City of Rye police officer initiated a traffic stop at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 28 after observing the vehicle operating in a commercial capacity and committing Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

The vehicle was escorted to a safe location for a full D.O.T. inspection.

Seven of the 22 violations were classified as out-of-service violations.

The violations included improper securement of heavy machinery, which was secured by only one 3/8-inch chain with a 6,600-pound working load limit.

The driver was operating out of class, possessing a Class D license when a Class A license was required.

Additional violations included an unregistered trailer displaying an improper Maine registration, an unregistered power unit, a federal out-of-service violation for refusal of audit/no contact, and an inactive D.O.T. number.

The vehicle was towed from the roadway.
