SCHENECTADY, NY — State Police from Princetown with assistance from the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 53-year-old Amsterdam man on weapons and traffic charges early Saturday morning.
Jubbar K. Singleton, 53, of Amsterdam, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the second degree, and numerous Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
Troopers attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Lafayette Street at about 2:10 a.m. Saturday for a Vehicle and Traffic Law violation.
The vehicle fled and was later found unoccupied with assistance from the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office in the area of Erie Boulevard.
Singleton was observed a short time later returning to the vehicle and attempting to enter the driver’s seat.
When approached by troopers, Singleton fled on foot and was witnessed throwing a loaded illegally possessed handgun into a nearby grassy area.
He was quickly taken into custody and the handgun was recovered.
Singleton was transported to State Police Princetown for processing following a medical evaluation.
He was then transported to the Schenectady County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
