SOUTHEAST, NY — A deputy discharged their service weapon after being struck by a fleeing vehicle during an investigation on Sodom Road on Nov. 24.
Deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office were conducting an active investigation at approximately 8:35 p.m. when the vehicle involved attempted to flee.
The vehicle struck and injured a deputy during the incident.
After being struck, the deputy discharged their service weapon, hitting the suspect.
The suspect sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a medical facility with serious injuries.
The deputy was transported to a local hospital, evaluated, and later released.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office requested the New York State Police to assume the lead role in the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Brewster is actively investigating this incident.
