ST. ARMAND, NY — State Police arrested a man on drunken driving charges following a one-car crash on Nov. 23.

Troopers responded to Gillespie Drive at approximately 2:42 p.m. for a vehicle that struck a telephone pole.

An investigation determined that a black 2018 Chevrolet, operated by James R. Kondrat, 52, of Wilmington, was traveling east on County Route 72 when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center line, and left the roadway on the northern shoulder, striking a telephone pole.

Local fire and rescue personnel arrived on scene and medically evaluated Kondrat.

When troopers arrived and interviewed him, he was exhibiting signs of impairment.

Kondrat declined further medical treatment.

Troopers administered standardized field sobriety tests, which Kondrat failed.

He was arrested and transported to State Police Ray Brook for processing, where he provided a breath sample of .30% blood alcohol content.

Kondrat was charged with aggravated unlicensed operator first degree, aggravated driving while intoxicated, and driving while intoxicated – first offense.

He was released on an appearance ticket returnable to St. Armand Town Court in December.
