CHAMPLAIN, NY — New York State Police arrested a local man on domestic-related charges following an incident at a residence in town.
Laine W. Baker, 42, of Champlain, was charged with criminal contempt in the first degree and two counts of criminal mischief.
Police responded to Milky Way on Nov. 22 at approximately 1:05 p.m. for a domestic dispute.
An investigation determined that Baker and the victim were involved in a verbal argument regarding Baker being at the residence, despite an active stay-away order of protection in place protecting the victim.
During the incident, Baker became increasingly upset, took the victim’s phone, preventing the victim from contacting law enforcement, and damaged it.
Baker fled the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival.
He later arrived at State Police barracks in Champlain and turned himself in on Nov. 23.
Baker was processed and arraigned in the Town of Mooers Court, where he was remanded to the Clinton County Jail in lieu of $500 bail or a $1,000 bond.
