Fatal crash under investigation in Clifton Park

CLIFTON PARK, NY — State Police are investigating a fatal multi-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday on Interstate 87.

Troopers responded to the southbound lanes of I-87 just south of Exit 11 at approximately 8:11 p.m.

The preliminary investigation determined two vehicles were traveling southbound when one vehicle rear-ended the other, sending it off the left shoulder and into a guardrail.

That vehicle was then struck by a third vehicle and came to rest against the guardrail facing north.

The driver of the struck vehicle exited the vehicle and was then hit by a tractor-trailer, ending up in the driving lane where he was struck by another southbound vehicle.

The victim was declared deceased at the scene.

State Police is withholding the victim’s name pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

The tractor-trailer that struck the victim left the scene and has not been located.

The investigation is ongoing.

State Police is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has dashcam video of the incident or the involved tractor-trailer to contact Troop G Headquarters in Latham at 518-783-3211.
